Employers & Employees

Would you like to help us?

Employer involvement in a young person's education is an important aspect of the careers education they receive.

This contribution often involves employees volunteering to participate.  Whether through classroom talks, course delivery, careers fairs, mentoring, or any other number of activities.  Exposure to employers when done properly motivates, inspires and informs young people, and can equip them with the skills needed to succeed in the workplace.

If you are an employer or employee and would like to support young people in their careers journey at Willingdon Community School, please contact srooney@willingdonschool.org.uk.  Thank you.

Mock Interview day - December 2021

‘Just wanted to say a massive ‘well done’ for an excellent event on Friday. It was very slickly organised, the evaluation form for the students was brilliant, and it was an all round good experience for me as an employer. ‘

‘A quick courtesy note from us at BT to say thank-you for inviting us to help out in your mock interviews.

What a fab bunch of young people you have- each and every one of them had put their heart and soul into what must have been a stressful exercise. Without exception, they all had great stories to tell and within them, lay a plethora of valuable and sought-after competencies. From tennis, to football, gymnastics, part-time jobs and online coaching; not to mention the pride they’ve gained in recent mock exams.

Specifically, there were some incredible examples of tenacity, self-improvement and resilience- these are supersonic skills that many employers will be crying out for. Some of your pupils might be surprised that they’re gaining these skills without ever knowing it. Hopefully, their day will aid them in individually teasing these out and developing a strategy for powerfully articulating them.’

They’re a credit to you and we enjoyed taking part!

Parent Forum – 25th February 2021

I attended the forum as the Enterprise Adviser for Willingdon School. The event was well organised and structured. Willingdon careers staff attending the event came over as both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject matter and providing as much information and opportunities to support decision making for their students.

A useful summary of the work undertaken in relation to careers, and currently underway as part of the curriculum, was provided by Mrs Borrell. It was also helpful for the Head Teacher to provide an introduction and to show her support for the event.

The virtual presentations from the colleges provided an excellent and co-ordinated opportunity for parents to review what the next stage of education could look like for their children. Presentations included East Sussex College Group, Plumpton, Eastbourne College and a presentation about earning and learning undertaking apprenticeships. Each of the presentations from the colleges were full of information about choosing and attending these campuses. The presenters were friendly approachable and positive and evidenced the good working relationships between the school and the colleges. Opportunities to find out more were also made clear. Posting the recording on line was a helpful suggestion to enable parents and students unable to sign in on the day to benefit from watching together (Marie Lucraft – Enterprise Adviser / HR Consultant - Merlin HR Solutions Ltd)
