The "Friends of Willingdon" are a group of parents/carers/supporters who seek to provide a link between the school, home and community through the organisation of a wide range of events which are not only a great deal of fun and a fantastic way to make new friends but also an opportunity to fundraise for school projects to enhance and enrich all our children's school lives.
To date, we have managed to generate enough funds to provide the school(and local community) with a defibrillator, purchased additional sound equipment for the Drama department and are currently gathering funds to support the school's major Music projects.
The "Friends" meet each term and are mindful not to be too unrealistic in terms of people's time and commitment. Our aim is to provide fun, inexpensive, popular fundraising events which do not require huge amounts of effort or extensive organisation. We are a small but dedicated group who would welcome new members at any time; people with new ideas regarding future events/activities or simply those who would like to come along and get involved in some way. We are a friendly bunch and there's always plenty of tea and coffee (and even biscuits!) on offer !
Our events are frequent (one per term), varied and well attended. We host regular bingo and quiz nights, coffee mornings, rambles across the Downs, the X'mas Factor and many other social events. We are now planning and organising a new and exciting event for us...RACE NIGHT - which we are hoping could prove to be extremely popular!
The "Friends of Willingdon" commit to supporting the school wherever possible and that includes being present and proactive at open evenings, welcome meetings for new Year 7 parents/carers... This year, the Friends are excited to play a part in Willingdon's 60th Anniversary celebrations to be held in the Summer.
You can find information about upcoming "Friends" events and meetings in "Contact" magazine each fortnight, so please keep an eye open for them.
We look forward to seeing you at one (or all!) of our events. You are all most welcome.
