Book clubs are a fantastic way to build social reading environments and to develop interactive reading communities. Here are some of the clubs that have run recently.
Story Comic Book Club
Story Comic Book Club was attended by students from Year 7, 8 and 10. Students read and discussed ‘The Phoenix: The Weekly Story Comic”.
Football Heroes Book Club
Football Heroes Book Club was attended by enthusiastic Year 7 students who observed: “The books tell you about their life story [the footballers] and how they persevered. They carried on and didn’t stop until they achieved their goal.” Many students commented on how the books inspired them. “They taught me that you should carry on and don’t stop ‘til you achieve your goal – literally!”
History Book Club
Year 10 History students started their book club with Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry by Mildred Taylor, which links to their study of 1930s America.
Tower of Books Club
HSF students started their Tower of Books Club with a challenge to read twenty books. So far, they have read a book in the Jake Atlas adventure series and a non-fiction book on war. Look back at this page later in the year to find out what other books they decide to add to their literary tower.
