Author visits are an inspiring way to gain an insight into a writer's craft and intentions. Visits encourage engaging book talk, stimulate thoughtful questioning and motivate students to challenge their reading ideas.
Bali Rai, author of Now or Never
Year 7 and 8 students enjoyed a fantastic interactive session on 'Unheard Voices from British History' with author, Bali Rai. His historical fiction novel, Now or Never, is part of the core year 7 curriculum and it was inspiring to see such thoughtful engagement from participants. Students were able to gain a clearer understanding of the research processes involved in writing historical fiction and Bali Rai's own personal journey into becoming a published author. Lots of opportunities to explore the need for super-readable dyslexia friendly texts and hard-hitting stories that speak to students' own experiences.
Many of Bali Rai's books are available in the school library and an excellent way to take part in the #inmyshoesWCS reading challenge.
